How to Get Knockout Vocals in Your Next Recording Session
Many artists don’t put the same amount and focus into their vocals as they do in their songwriting and production of their songs.
Here are some insights professional voice teacher and vocal producer Arden Kaywin provides to help singers have a knockout vocal recording session.
1) Be a storyteller NOT a singer
This will help you connect to your lyrics deeper, and access the raw emotion in your song that your listeners will want to hear
2) Warm-up your vocals
Your voice is an instrument, so you should treat it as such. Make sure you warm up your vocals before every recording session so you don’t damage your vocal chords, or waste time and money during your session.
3) Let someone else hear your song to get an objective opinion
You want to make sure your peformance sounds honest, you can understand all the words, and your breathing is correct etc. to make sure your listeners get the most out of your music.
4) Don’t micro-manage every sound that comes out of your mouth
Sometimes you need to just let go to make vocal magic happen. Don’t overthink what you’re doing and you are likely be very happy with the results.
