Google to Launch “Music Key” Subscription Service with 20 Million Tracks and Concert Footage in Bid to Take on Apple and Spotify
YouTube is set to launch a music subscription service called YouTube Music Key, and is set to re-brand Google Play Music All Access to Google Play Music Key. This service will take on major players in the industry like Spotify and Apple, and will offer access to concert footage and remixes, videos andover 20 million tracks. According to Android Police, the service may offer a free 30 day trial then will cost $9.99 per month.
Although disputes over royalties will block some independent artists’ music videos, adding subscription-based features on YouTube will result in hundreds of major label and independent artists signing on.
Google may be bringing some bells and whistles to the table but the question is, will the independent artists and labels be treated equitably and fairly? Only time will tell.
