Music Industry Tips: Stay True to Yourself and Your Music

It is very tough for artists to keep their integrity in the music industry, especially new artists in the game who are trying to make their mark in the industry.

At times it can be helpful to take constructive feedback to improve your music, but it’s important to make sure you incorporate feedback that actually helps you, as opposed to it being provided behind a hidden agenda.

If the feedback you receive can help insure that your music appeals to your target audience so you can actually grow your fan base and sell more of your songs, that’s great.  Just make sure you stay true to yourself and your music if you plan on staying in the music industry (and being happy in the music industry) long term.

That may sound cliché but if you can leverage your creativity to make music that is real to who you are, or speaks to your experiences, this can really help your remain motivated so you can continue to refine your art and remain successful in the industry long term.

You definitely don’t want to leave the music business because you were making music you never wanted to, and your music is not meaningful to you or your fans any longer.

This may seem overly simplistic, but really think about what you want to become in the music industry, and take proactive steps each day towards becoming what you think about, so you can work towards achieving YOUR goals.

We’re not talking about just daydreaming about e.g. performing in front of 1000 people.  We’re talking about making a solid plan and TAKING ACTION on that plan that is designed to help you get from where you are at right now in your music career, to getting to that venue(s) with thousands of your fans.

If you drive your own music plan (since you have your own best interest) you can better insure you can be yourself  in the music industry and stay true to your music.

Getting help in the industry is perfectly fine, as long as you maintain control of the plan you choose to execute to reach your goals, and don’t lose sight of who you are… if you want to have long term success AND happiness in the music industry.
