The Making of a Multi-Million View YouTube Music Channel
Lets face it, sometimes your music plans don’t always work out exactly as you expect, so you need to make some adjustments.
This is exactly what Scott Bradlee did. He was finding it difficult to make ends meet throught gigs and sessons alone, so he started experimenting when he saw the success other musicians were having on YouTube.
He started his channel, and his jazz and ragtime covers of video game scores, pop songs, and movie themes regularly brought in thousands of views (views can translate into money when you monetize your YouTube videos and let viewers know where they can buy your music). Then something happened…he started collaborating with small ensembles and almost immediately his old time jazz rendition of Macklemore’s “Thrift Shop” racked up a million vivews in a week and has since approached nearly 7 million views.
Scott Bradlee consistently scores tons of views doing his own renditions of pop songs, like Nicki Minaj’s “Anaconda“, and Meghan Trainor’s “All About that Bass“. He has also scored a lot of views with the theme to “DuckTales” rearranged as an R&B slow jam (one of our favorites from Bradley) , and Lorde’s “Royals”…while singing as a big sad clown.
Bradlee’s Postmodern Jukebox videos have scored tons of views and have proven to not only be a gimmick. His videos are simply produced, arranged well, and performed with musicianship.
Bradley’s communicates that the key to the channel’s success is “Just…being consistent in putting out new videos and collaborating with others.” The notoriety that has come with the channel has enabled Bradlee and his players to hit the road in a live variety show that he describes as a “three dimensional version of my YouTube channel”
