YouTube’s Proposed Music Contract with Indie Labels Leaked
You may already know that Youtube’s upcoming music streaming plan has not been looked at favorably in the indie music community.
In fact, WIN (independent labels trade body) accused YouTube of trying to force members to sign the contract or risk their videos being blocked.
There has been a lot of speculation about the details of the contract. Digital Music News put an end to some of the speculation by publishing the entire Youtube contract for Indies… on their website.
Billboard has also summarized the contract and discusses clauses that can be viewed as damaging to indie musicians. For example, the contract requires that an artist’s entire catalog be made available for both free and non-free services. This can create a huge impact on music sales if consumers can get your music for free instead of having to pay for it.
