Getting Gigs Part 3: How to Promote Your Shows

You may have successfully booked your gig but your job is not done yet.

Here are some tips you should keep in mind once your show dates have been confirmed.

1) Make sure you understand all the logistics

If you are going to perform abroad you’ll need to make sure you have your Visa etc. when necessary.  Take care of this as soon as possible, rather than waiting until the last minute so you’re prepared and ready to go sooner than later.

You’ll also need to plan your travel (via plane, train …)and accommodations so you can arrive and stay at your destination at reasonable rates so you can hold on to as much of your hard earned money as possible.

2) Promote your brand at the venues

You will have a prime opportunity to promote your brand at the venues you perform at. Leverage merchandising like clothing items (t-shirts, hats) and other memorabilia to reinforce your brand to your target customers.  Also, make sure you promote your brand via social media regularly so your fans understand what your band is all about and why they should choose you above other bands in the area.

3) Contact the press to get more people to your shows

Once you have a solid promotion plan in place, contact the press to make them aware of your upcoming gigs at least a few weeks prior to your gig.  This can be a great way to get awareness for your music, upcoming album releases, and gigs.
