How to Restring an Acoustic Guitar
[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]In the video above, Greg Voros, shows you how to restring an acoustic guitar. In his demonstration he communicates that string preference is important in gauge and brand. He uses Martin Acoustic SP strings, but feel free to use whatever strings you choose to use.
Similar to Greg’s video on how to restring an electric guitar, he advises that you start with the low E string when you restring your acoustic guitar.
1) Put the E string through the tailpiece, keep it tight so it stays in, and put the string through the tuner hole. Place your hand over the 7th fret. Grab the slack and wrap it once over the top. Start winding the string downward. When the string is pretty tight, take the bridge and slip it under the string so it’s secured in place.
As a rule of thumb, if your instrument has F holes, place the bridge close to the center between the two F holes.
2) Go to the D string, attach it to the tail piece, keep it tight and put it through the tuner hole. Put your hand over the fingerboard and under the string at the 7th fret and grab the slack. Put the string once over the top then bend the string up so it’s out of your way, then wind it counterclockwise.
3) Next you go to the A string, B string, D string, then the high E string and repeat what you did in number 2 above.
Remember, when you string your guitar the guitar should wrap towards the inside of the peg head (similar to a flower).
4) Tune the guitar (you can play the harmonic open string instead of the open string by itself if you choose), then clip the strings as close as you can to the post.
Have fun playing and mastering your guitar skills.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/1″][vc_cta_button call_text=”Click the Button on the Right for the Complete Learn & Master Guitar Setup & Maintenance Course” title=”Click Here Nor For More Guitar Setup & Maintenance Training” target=”_blank” color=”btn-danger” icon=”none” size=”wpb_regularsize” position=”cta_align_right” href=”/RestringAcousticGuitar”][/vc_column][/vc_row]
