Twitter Audio Cards: How to Put Music in Your Tweets

On Thursday October 16th Twitter introduced a new product that enables audio streaming within the Twitter app, so you can include music right in your tweets.  The product is called the Twitter Audio Card, and it will be powered through partnerships with third-party streaming services.  The first audio card partner is SoundCloud, and the  link will show up as a rectangular Audio Card on the screen.  The user on Twitter just needs to tap once on the timeline to see the expanded audio card and listen to the tune.

This feature is currently being used by a small sample of Twitter users, like DJ/Producer Deadmau5, and will be rolled out in the future at a date to be determined.  According to a SoundCloud spokesperson, it will be available in the future to anyone who posts on SoundCloud.

iTunes has also been added as a partner. Now, when you listen to music from select iTunes artists, you will be able to pre-order unreleased music in a few taps and purchase songs directly from iTunes.  Foo Fighters used this new feature to Tweet the official release of a new single “Something From Nothing” from their upcoming album on iTunes.

Twitter will likely announce additional Audio Card partners in the future…so stay tuned.
