4 Royalties You’re Probably Missing (Even if You’re Registered with ASCAP, BMI, or SESAC)

If you’re a songwriter affiliated with a performing rights organization  (such as BMI or ASCAP) and registered your songs, you’re on your way to collecting your publishing royalties…but you’re entitles to collect even more royalties.

Performing rights organizations, like BMI, only collect one form of music publishing revenues, and that is performance royalty, but here’s what you’re missing…

1) Streaming– Each time your music played on an interactive streaming service like Beats Music, you’re owed mechanical publishing royalties, and a standard streaming license fee you should receive per play.

2) Mechanical Royalties for Physical Products (vinyl, CDs etc.)- Performing rights organizations, like ASCAP, do NOT collect mechanical royalties, but every time a song you’ve written appears on an album that is for sale, you’re owed a mechanical royalty.  If other artists cover your songs, you should be set up to get paid too.
